- download jdk-7u25-linux-x64.tar.gz from oracle site.
- unpack jdk-7u25-linux-x64.tar.gz
- Install it. Actually, you needn't install it, just copy the directory to a specified place.
$ sudo mkdir /usr/local/java
$ sudo cp jdk1.7.0_25 /usr/local/java
- setting environment.
$ sudo vi /etc/profile
append the followings to the end of it:
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_25
export CLASSPATH=.:$JAVA_HOME/lib
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
- reload configuration
$ source ./profile
- update-alternatives
we must do this so that the commands such as 'java' can be executed on console:
$ sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_25/bin/java 300
$ sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javac javac /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_25/bin/javac 300
$ sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javap javap /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_25/bin/javap 300
$ sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javadoc javadoc /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_25/bin/javadoc 300
